Jeanne was a devout Catholic, having a personal relationship with God. Her calling was one of service and motherhood. She was the proud mother of fifteen children. She put God first in all that she did. Jeanne taught her children to love the Lord, serve all in need, and be peacemakers amongst each other. She played many roles, wore lots of different hats, and went by several names; but those closest to her knew her as Mom.
If you woke early enough you would find Mom with a bible and prayer book in hand. She started her day thanking the Lord and probably asking for as much assistance as he could grant her. Keeping all those children in line was no simple task. She always seemed to know who needed an extra hug, a stern look, a pep talk, a good whack, a lap to snuggle, a shoulder to cry on, or just an ear to listen. She never wanted to see someone hungry, whether it was for a meal, company, or love. Mom welcomed all at her table and made sure that anyone who needed a place knew that they were always welcome. All of her children have their own memories but the one thing that we all have in common is that Mom instilled in us the importance of faith and family. In the evening time you could hear her calling out names to gather together. “The family that prayers together, stays together.” The rosary beads would be distributed, and the evening prayers would be prayed.
Mom spent her last days surrounded by her children. Hospice was such a blessing to our family. We were able to be with our mother in those last precious moments. Hospice allowed us to gather together. Mom was granted a peaceful passing wrapped in the arms of her children and surrounded by love.
