Panhandle Palliative Services Participates in Connected Horses Professional Day, Hosted by Horses with Hearts
On August 6th, two of our Palliative Care staff members – Autumn Howell (Social Worker) and Danielle Wolfrey (Nurse Practitioner) – had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Connected Horses Professional Day!
This event allowed Autumn and Danielle to learn about the Connected Horse program with Horses with Hearts, and how it will benefit those who are experiencing memory loss.
“Kay, Melissa, and all of the volunteers were fantastic. It was a privilege to learn more about the Connected Horse program and how it will benefit those experiencing memory loss. The scenery, the people, and of course, the horses truly made a difference in my day. I can only imagine how much those who complete the three-week program will benefit. This program will certainly be an asset to our community,” said Autumn Howell, Palliative Care Social Worker.
We thank Horses with Hearts for hosting this incredible event and allowing us to come!

Board Member Nina Arnett Talks About Her Journey with Hospice of the Panhandle; Article Featured in The Journal
| “They took care of everything. During one of the hardest times of my life, they made sure we weren’t alone.” Nina Arnett, who serves on our Board of Directors, has a long connection with Hospice of the Panhandle, starting in 1980 when her mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Years later, her husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Her story is a testament to our legacy, built on compassionate, high-quality care for our community. |

Honoring Patient’s Wishes, One Line at a Time
When our patients share a special request, we do everything we can to make it happen.
For George, he had one simple wish: to go fishing. Thanks to the kindness of our volunteer, Kelly, we were able to take George out to the pond at our Inpatient Facility for a relaxing afternoon by the water.
Alongside his wife, George enjoyed a peaceful moment with the simple joy of casting a line. These moments become cherished memories, and we’re honored to help make them possible!
Hospice of the Panhandle received verbal and written permission to use names and photos.

Hospice of the Panhandle Hosts Community Blood Drive
Our Community Blood Drive was a success! We are incredibly grateful to everyone who rolled up their sleeves and helped support this important effort. Thanks to the generosity of our community, 30 units of blood were collected!
A special thank you to the American Red Cross for helping us make the drive possible, and to Miss Eastern Panhandle, Rivers Jenkins, for volunteering with us! Rivers’ community service initiative, the Second Chance River Project, was inspired by her own journey as a liver transplant recipient and focuses on educating and empowering others about the importance of organ donation.
Thank you to all of our donors, volunteers, and staff for helping make the day run smoothly. Your time, generosity, and commitment truly make a difference in the lives of others.

Hospice of the Panhandle’s Community and Provider Liaison, Caitlin Henry, Speaks About Knowing the Right Time to Seek Hospice Care
Hospice of the Panhandle’s Community and Provider Liaison, Caitlin Henry, was recently featured in The Journal about an important question many families face: How do you know when it’s the right time to seek hospice care?
She discussed the importance of recognizing when a loved one’s needs are changing and how hospice can help patients focus on comfort and quality of life. Hospice care is not about giving up – it’s about making sure patients and their families have compassionate support when they need it most.
We are grateful to The Journal for helping bring awareness to the benefits of hospice care and encouraging families to have these important conversations.
