A wife and mother benefits from our layers of support
Audrey Rowe discovered the many ways Hospice of the Panhandle supports families through her first-hand experiences. When her daughter passed away, Audrey was comforted by our grief services. Then when her husband developed Alzheimer’s, she found expert care for him at home as well as vital support for her herself as his caregiver.
Audrey Rowe found her way to Hospice of the Panhandle in an unconventional manner. She was grieving the loss of her daughter and reached out to the Grief Services Department. A longtime counselor helped her work through her grief. Then, when her husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and she didn’t know where to turn, she contacted Hospice again, this time by email in the middle of the night. The next morning, a concerned staff member called her back, and upon listening to her story, said a nurse would come to her home to assess the needs of her beloved husband, Howard.
“I was taken aback when they told me he was eligible for Hospice services,” Audrey said. She had made preliminary plans to have him moved within the next few days to a facility in North Carolina, where he was from, to be closer to other family members.”
“But Hospice came to our home … and gave Howard all the care he needed,” Audrey said. “They took care of Howard and saved my life.”
